Patexia Releases its Fourth Annual IPR Intelligence Report and Rankings
Patexia’s 2020 IPR Intelligence Report is the fourth in an annual series that provides rankings, statistics and comprehensive analysis of IPR stakeholders as part of its research division.
Santa Monica, CA (September 9, 2020): Today, Patexia, Inc., an IP analytics company and global IP community, is proud to announce its fourth annual IPR Litigation Intelligence Report as part of its Patexia Insights series.
We realize that many law firms and attorneys struggle to distinguish themselves in the growing IPR space, so we evaluated over 900 law firms and close to 5,000 attorneys on activity, success and performance, enabling lawyers and practice groups to market themselves based on independent third-party rankings and proven results.
Additionally, this 129-page report can help corporations find the right IPR counsel. Our rankings can be leveraged by these organizations to make better decisions based on proven records. Utilizing data from over 7,708 Inter-Partes Review (IPR) challenges filed over the past five years (July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2020), this comprehensive report ranks up to 1000 most active law firms, attorneys and companies.
Some interesting insights from this year’s report include the following:
- During the last five years, 7,708 IPR cases were filed to challenge 4,886 unique patents. These petitions challenged 79,523 unique patent claims.
- Claim-level data indicates that, on average, about 16 claims of each patent were challenged
Of 2,685 companies as petitioners and patent owners:
- Apple is the most active company with involvement in 389 cases
- Finjan Holdings is the best-performing company with an overall performance score of 100%
The report also includes a comprehensive analysis of IPR cost and staffing based on the survey we conducted in July.
When asked about this report and its importance, Pedram Sameni, the company’s CEO, relayed the following “our 2020 edition of IPR report dedicates a full section to IPR cost and staffing for the first time. This was one of the topics that many corporate in-house counsel were interested in and there was no concrete data available. We hope our IP community finds this report and the new sections useful”.
He further added: “with the current pandemic and cancellation of social and networking events as well as conferences, more law firms and companies find these reports helpful for their decision making”.
When discussing the rankings and future plans, Sameni commented: “We have added a new section to all law firm, attorney and company pages on Patexia site, which covers their rankings in different areas of IP”. He continued: “We are continuing to grow this arm of our business and hope to publish our first patent litigation report early next year, which will mark our largest project of this kind. The report will require a review of more than 12000 district court cases”. Patexia is hoping to carve out a name as a trusted source in this area.
The IPR Intelligence Report is available for purchase now at IPR Intelligence 2020
