New Trademark Intelligence Report 2024 and Rankings Shed Light on U.S. Trademark Landscape

Santa Monica, CA (April 25, 2024): Today, Patexia, Inc., a prominent provider of intellectual property analytics, is excited to unveil its fourth annual Trademark Intelligence Report. This comprehensive study presents rankings, statistics, and insights into trademark prosecution, including the evaluation and ranking of applicants, law firms, and attorneys.

Over the past five years, U.S. trademark applications have undergone fluctuations influenced by various events that have shaped the landscape, including the COVID-19 pandemic, initiatives by the USPTO, and the implementation of the Trademark Modernization Act. Our report aims to offer a comprehensive analysis of trademark activity and trends during this dynamic period.

The report covers a five-year period from January 1, 2019, to December 31, 2023, analyzing 2,964,312 trademark applications submitted by 213,639 U.S. and foreign applicants, represented by 24,921 firms, and 32,484 attorneys. We explore filing and registration data, examining annual trends, renewals, abandonments, cancellations, office actions, and pendency. Our analysis encompasses both domestic and foreign activities, identifying the growth and decline of countries to pinpoint trends and changes in the data. Additionally, unique datasets featured in this report offer insights into trademark revenues, spending, top lateral moves, and the growth and decline of top firms/companies based on the number of trademarks filed in 2023 compared to 2022.

Highlights of the report include:

  • Comprehensive Data: Over 2.9 million trademark applications filed with the USPTO, providing a detailed overview of registration rates, renewals, cancellations, office actions, pendency, and more.
  • Foreign and Domestic Activity: Insights into trademark activity from domestic and foreign entities, with a special focus on the top countries contributing to the U.S. trademark landscape.
  • Stakeholder Rankings: Evaluation and rankings of the top 2,000 companies, law firms, and attorneys based on activity and performance, offering valuable benchmarks for industry professionals.

“In the landscape of intellectual property, trademarks stand as essential pillars of brand identity, safeguarding the unique essence of businesses and products in the marketplace. The annual Trademark Intelligence Report serves as a beacon of insights in this dynamic environment, offering a comprehensive analysis of trademark activity, trends, as well as rankings of the trademark attorneys, firms, and companies by activity and performance,” said Pedram Sameni, Patexia’s CEO. “Informed decisions in trademark strategy can mean the difference between establishing a strong brand presence and facing infringement challenges that threaten reputation and revenue.”
