Patexia expands Insights series with the Trademark Prosecution Intelligence Report

Patexia’s 2021  Trademark Prosecution Intelligence Report provides rankings, statistics, revenue, spending and comprehensive analysis of stakeholders in trademark prosecution.

Santa Monica, CA (June 17, 2021): Today, Patexia, Inc., an intellectual property company and global IP community, is proud to announce the release of its first annual Trademark Prosecution Intelligence Report in an effort to map the trademark prosecution landscape and offer insights into levels of activity, performance and trends, and the best practices of trademark firms, among other important topics.

The US Trademark, as one of the popular types of intellectual property, has garnered more attention in recent years, with the unexpected rise in the volume of applications coming from foreign entities and specifically Chinese companies. This made the preparation of the report more complicated than other ones, due to the much larger number of entities including both law firms and companies.

The report covers the activity and performance of all stakeholders for a 5-year period from January 1, 2016 through December 31, 2021. For this report, we have evaluated:

  • 2,618,466 trademark applications
  • 191,904 U.S. and foreign trademark applicants
  • 27,824 trademark firms
  • 33,234 trademark attorneys

Furthermore, we have provided these unique datasets for the first time in this report:

  • The estimated 5-year trademark revenue generated by trademark firms
  • The estimated 5-year trademark revenue generated by trademark attorneys
  • The estimated 5-year spending on US trademark prosecution by trademark applicants (corporations) including the law firm fees, and the USPTO fees
  • The top three clients for each of the trademark firms and the volume of work handled for each
  • The top three trademark firms, handling trademark prosecution for each of the corporations and the volume of work handled by each firm.

When asked about this release, Pedram Sameni, the company’s CEO, relayed the following, “US trademark applications have increased by 30% in 2020 to close to 700,000 applications. Some of the Trademark firms and attorneys are busier than before and this calls for a better evaluation process for all those involved in this sector. We hope this inaugural report provides some useful insights into this rapidly changing sector and helps companies and trademark applicants find the right counsel for their trademark needs”.  He further added “The report can answer questions such as where a particular law firm stands compared to other firms when it comes to trademark volume, revenue or quality. Or if the outside counsel has an efficient process for handling oppositions”.
