Patexia Releases Third Annual Patent Prosecution Intelligence Report and Rankings

Patexia’s 2021  Patent Prosecution Intelligence Report provides rankings, statistics, revenue, expenses and comprehensive analysis of stakeholders in patent prosecution.

Santa Monica, CA (June 10, 2021): Today, Patexia, Inc., an intellectual property company and global IP community, is proud to announce the release of its third annual Patent Prosecution Intelligence Report with the addition of several new sections as part of its Patexia Insights series.

Corporations need to identify the best counsel available, especially for their intellectual property and patent prosecution needs.  We have evaluated all patent firms using our proven methodology and looked into patent statistics, best patent prosecution practices, activity of companies and law firms, and analyzed technology centers and art units.

Our corporate clients use the report to evaluate their current counsel or find a new counsel for their patent work. We have looked at about 1.8 million utility patents and 2.4 million utility applications issued or abandoned from January 1, 2016, through December 31, 2020. Our number-driven rankings can also be utilized by law firms for marketing and business development.  The report covers the top 1,000 best-performing law firms and companies.

This year, we evaluated:

  • 2,379,335 applications
  • 1,807,622 Patents
  • 27,044,210 Claims
  • 116,033 Assignees
  • 3,714 Patent Firms

In addition, we have provided brand new datasets including:

  • The estimated 5-year patent revenue generated by patent firms
  • The estimated 5-year spending on US patent prosecution by corporations including the law firm fees, the USPTO fees and the US patent portfolio maintenance.
  • The top three clients for each of the law firms and the volume of work handled for each
  • The top three law firms handling patent prosecution for each of the corporations and the volume of work handled by each firm.

The report measures the overall performance of stakeholders by activity, success, quality, efficiency, and cost. We have separately looked at the Best Performing law firms and companies overall, as well as in the High-Tech, and Bio-Tech sectors to identify the top 100 in each category. The report is accompanied with Excel sheets for easy access to all metrics and rankings. We also provide the top 100 law firms who have purchased the report with our 2021 Best Performing and Most Active Badges. Pedram Sameni, the company’s CEO relayed the following: “It is essential for the IP intensive corporations to understand and better control their cost, while optimizing the processes to obtain the highest quality patents”. He further added: “we are very excited to release this new cost and revenue model as it also helps law firms understand their competition better and improve their profit margins when possible”.
